How to Shop the Champs Elysees
The Champs Elysees in Paris is one of the most celebrated shopping districts in the world. This street is 1.18 miles (1.91 km) long, and is bordered by trees, monuments, expensive shops, nike free run, restaurants and cafes. In addition to great shopping, you can find treasures such as the Arc de Triomphe, which is a monument that honors those who fought and died for France during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. Navigating the shopping scene is not difficult. The street stretches in one long strip, making it easy to stroll from one end to the other all in the same shopping trip. Most of the tourist offices and hotels in Paris can provide you with a map of the Champs Elysees that highlights the street and identifies landmarks.
Download a digital map to your internationally enabled smart phone, or print one out at home before you leave.
Use a Paris travel guide, if you prefer a printed version to a digital one. While high end shops are the draw in this neighborhood, you can also shop in popular favorites such as the Gap, Benetton and Sephora.
Prepare to pay in euros. France is part of the European Union, which means all prices will be in euros. You can pay with cash or credit cards at most stores. When you pay by credit, your bank will perform the currency exchange for you when the transaction goes through.
Give yourself a range so you do not overspend. Exploring the Champs Elysees on foot will ensure you see all the available shops, and the sidewalks are wide and clean. There are 4 metro stations that run to the area, including the Champs Elysees station.
Walk from one end of the Champs Elysees to the other. Without stopping to shop, it is about a 30 minute walk from Clemenceau metro station on one end to the Charles de Gaulle metro station on the other end.
Flag a taxi to take you back to your hotel if you do too much shopping. Stores will be willing to hold your purchases for you if you find you have too much to carry, and taxis are readily available on the Champs Elysees.
Plan at least half a day for your shopping trip to the Champs Elysees while you are in Paris. You might want to make it a full day if you plan to include a leisurely lunch and sightseeing at nearby places such as the Arc de Triomphe, Grand Palais and the Tuileres Gardens.
Consider a walking tour. While you will not have time to shop, a tour might give you a preview of some of the stores you would like to spend time in when you do go shopping. The Paris Truimphal Walking Tour is popular, as are several Paris by Night tours.
Target specific shops that you do not want to miss. There is no organizational structure to the location of certain shops. Jewelry stores are situated next to athletic shoe stores and all types of retailers are scattered up and down the street.
